Another New Nightmare?

A new, new nightmare!Well, this is surely a good sign that someone at New Line is paying attention to how horror is doing at the box office. Since before the phenomenal success of the incredibly bad Halloween remake, they’ve been working on a new Friday the 13th (“New Friday in ‘09”? – July 2007), as you know. But what about that other New Line franchise?

Well, today Bloody Disgusting got word from their source at New Line that, indeed, another Nightmare on Elm Street is being panned but it will not be the prequel idea that’s been going around for a few months now. What will it be, then? Specifics are still up in the air, and I’m sure the seemingly never-ending writer’s strike isn’t helping.

The site also learned that the Freddy Vs. Jason sequel has been scrapped, yet again, so thank whatever horror Gods there are out there for that. And hey, as long as they keep the design of Freddy from New Nightmare for the new movie, I’ll be happy!

Ah, traumahound00, another of the people who rely on defenses like good box office, how "most people" loved it, and how those who hated it are snobs and critics only. God, IMDB bred invalids.

box office doesnt equal praise. horror movies appeal to the general masses, and they will pay to see any old shit because they arent fans of the genre and dont give a shit what they pay for. thats like calling Mc Donald's fine cuisine because it makes more money than gourmet foods.

as for the CHUD thing, what do you want? it was confirmed by Rob himself. as to why it was retracted none of us know. theres a million possible reasons why Rob would say it was true and his management would say it wasnt. Hollywood is a complicated place to work.

I'll pipe up for the 'hated FvJ' lot. It was indeed just as bad as the majority of the sequels in both franchises, if not worse. I expected it to be bad, and it was even worse that I expected. Even the horrid 'Freddy versus Jason... place your bets' line that was in the trailer but got cut from the film couldn't have made it worse.

how do you explain it's 6.1 out of 10 rating on imdb? i'd hardly say that supports your theory that everyone apart from a few elite 'loved' it. sure, they may have liked it more than us guys, but loved it? i don't see any evidence of that.

so the general movie going public is what we are going to judge cinematic quality on? when I saw Halloween, the only people who liked it were not the writers, film-makers, or critics in the room; rater it was the drunken, loud-mouthed college kids who liked it because it was "violent" or because it was "just awesome"

needless to say that the other people in the room had quite a bit more to say on the issue, and it was a bit better statedand had more to back it up.

Armchair my ass.

So box office numbers equal praise? Wow, then I guess everybody must LOVE The Fog and When A Stranger Calls remakes, along with White Noise, Boogeyman, Swimfan, and half of every other godawful genre offering in the past twenty years. Bravo, you have it pinned down.

And, yes, RZ's Halloween remake was shit. Most horror fans agree.

The incredibly bad Halloween remake? Hmm, seems to me the only people who didn't like it are the armchair critics who run the internet horror sites. Pretty much everyone else loved it, as evident by it's incredibly strong box office numbers.

Oh yeah, what about that that C.H.U.D. remake that you guys got confirmation on from Rob Zombie himself that was, in fact, confirmed to be total bullshit?

sign me up in the FvJ defense. it gave me what i wanted, if not everything i hoped (some human characters i cared about would have been nice... but apart from that) and Ronny shot the fight as the combination of They Live and Terminator 2's fights that i was praying for.

so long as Robert Englund is Freddy... this has potential, remake or not. but it'd be pretty simple to make a new standalone film that doesn't require knowledge of the previous films.

see Ju-On: The Grudge for a decent blue print.

I agree. Freddy vs. Jason was way better than Nightmare 4,5,6 and jason 8,9, and even X. The characters were a tad annoying, but all that did not matter with the insane action and violence that permeated the film.

I do not understand the cirtiques against it. Yu and crew did a FAN-tastic job with it.

Freddy vs Jason was a blast! What the hell were people expecting from that movie?

Am I the only person on this board who LOVED Freddy Vs. Jason? I don't care what anybody else thought of it, I loved it! It was a ton of fun...although...Jason should have looked more New Blood-ish...but that's just me...

It has to be an attempted remake/re-boot of the franchise - but whatever, I hope they get rid of that rubber doll being pulled through the front door window at the end of the movie!

It's going to be a remake, TDA is right. This will start off as a sequel, and then New Line will go "Screw it, we'll make more money on a remake."

Why? For the life of me, I can't understand why original stuff isn't getting made. I know several people who had scripts optioned that had nothing to do with Freddy, or Jason, or any other horror franchise. I know even more than that who have scripts already written. It's not like the shit isn't available. FUCK.

It will probably be a remake.

What a disappointment, as a new Freddy vs Jason would beat the "Halloween"-esque reboots we are about to get on both this AND the F13 series.

I blame Butane.
