Alphabet Killer Caught?

Did The Alphabet Killer help catch the Alphabet Killer? How often have you heard about a film based on a real series of killing actually helping to solve the crime? This is a first time for me…

Word came down over the weekend that Rob (Wrong Turn) Schmidt’s latest film, The Alphabet Killer, has led police and citizenry in and around Rochester, NY, where the killings and the movie take place, to re-examine some old evidence using new technology. The results led to an arrest and the hopeful conviction of someone long thought of as a “person of interest” by the police in relation to the killings.

A Florida man was arrested and charged with the 1976 murder of Michelle McMurray, thought to be the last of the Alphabet Killer’s victims. Unlike the others she was not found in a town that began with the first letter of her first and last name, but rather near her home in Rochester, NY. Because the producers and director decided to shoot the film where the murders took place, questions began being asked again and research done, which could eventually lead to the case of the Alphabet Murders finally being solved. We’ll keep an eye on this and let you know when more is done, but be sure to hit the NY Daily News story to get all the details.

In news of the film, we were informed that The Alphabet Killer has been submitted to Sundance and they’re currently awaiting word on if they got in. Many studios have been asking after the movie, so expect to hear some official distro announcements soon!
