A Ghoulish Premiere This Weekend
Director/VFX Supervisor Gary Jones (Mosquito, Spiders) dropped me an email about Ghouls, his new film premiering on the Sci-Fi Channel this weekend. Sci-Fi must really be high on the film since I've seen ads hyping it as not just an original movie premiering, but as an "event".
Ghouls tells the tale of a college student (Kristen Renton, "Days of Our Lives") returning with her father (William Atherton, Die Hard, Ghostbusters) to his home country only to discover her family holds a dark secret that involves her.
It also involves some spectral ghouls that fly around attacking people, not all that dissimilar to the Dementors from the Harry Potter films, though I suspect the aftermath of one of their attacks is far more unpleasant.
Also starring in the Romanian-filmed fright flick from writer Brian D. Young (Kraken: Tentacles of the Deep) are James DeBello (Cabin Fever, Detroit Rock City) and Erin Gray (Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, "Silver Spoons").
Ghouls premieres Saturday night on the Sci-Fi Channel at 9/8 Central with the usual replay four hours later. Why not tune in after you get back from seeing the new Hellboy flick.
Jones has also recently wrapped up work on next year's direct-to-DVD sequel Boogeyman 3.
In the meantime, check out this badass image below of one of Ghouls' ghouls Jones sent along. Definitely not your typically hokey Sci-Fi Channel movie monster.

Well the ghouls do look bad ass, hopefully this one will be better than the other crap Scifi puts out. I haven't watched a Scifi original movie since the one about the alien ants or some shit like that.

That monster does look BADASS.
On a lighter note, I wonder if Atherton will still have no dick...

Yeah, I forgot about her being on Buck Rogers. Sue me.
As for "Days of our Lives", it's the actress' only other noteworthy credit. I could have wrote Kristen Renton (appeared in one episode of "The Andy Dick Show") instead.
