Jordan Peele’s New Movie Snags The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun

Get Out and Us writer-director Jordan Peele is working on a new project. And today we hear Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead, A24’s Minari) is eyeing a lead role.

If he does, in fact, end up joining the cast, he’ll star alongside Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Black Panther) and Keke Palmer (Scream Queen, MTV Scream) who are leading.

Universal’s Donna Langley said: “Jordan has established himself as a premier voice and original storyteller with global appeal. He is leading a new generation of filmmakers that have found a way to tap into the cultural zeitgeist with groundbreaking content that resonates with audiences of all backgrounds. We also share an important goal with Monkeypaw when it comes to increasing representation on-screen in the characters that are portrayed, the stories that are told, and the people who tell them.”

The Illuminerdi also reported Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad, Fargo, Black Mirror) is up for a role. Here are some character details:

Artie is a lead, Latinx, or Native American man in his 20s to early 30s. An L.A. native, he works in the electronics department of a major retail store. He’s genuine, insightful, and “clutch”.

Winston Claes is a supporting character 55-70, with open ethnicity. Winston is a Fine Art Photographer whose career-long obsession for perfection has led him to the edge of a dull and unsatisfying end to his career. He radiates succinct weather-beaten insight of a lovably gruff unwilling mentor. Winston is emotionally balanced, but his Achillie’s heel is his thinly veiled ego.

All of this lines up with what Murphys Multiverse reported earlier: “The story will focus on a man between 20 to 32 old who lives on the outskirts of Los Angeles. He is a Walmart employee in the electronics section, who is described as perceptive, sincere, and “clutch”. [The filmmakers] are currently looking to cast someone either with a Latino or Native American background for the role.”

As you might imagine, story details are under wraps. But that said, we know Peele will direct, write and produce with Win Rosenfeld, Ian Cooper, and Peter Graf. Universal Pictures and Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions are behind the scenes.

The movie kicks off filming in Los Angeles in April. Universal will unleash the film on July 22, 2022. We’ll see about that. Either way, stay tuned.
