Mathis and Thomas will be joining previously announced cast members Jack Mulhern, Forrest Goodluck, Natalie Alyn Lind, Isabella Star LaBlanc, Jackson White, and Pam Grier.

Lindsey Beer is directing the Pet Sematary prequel from a screenplay she wrote based on a draft by Jeff Buhler. Producers are Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian.

The previous Pet Sematary movies are based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King, first published back in 1983. Mary Lambert directed 1989’s Pet Sematary and a 2019 adaptation was directed by Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer.

Deadline reports that the prequel began filming last week. The site also previously reported:

“The classic 1989 adaptation made history with Mary Lambert directing the pic and its 1992 follow-up and it was important to studio execs to go back to the film’s roots and have a female filmmaker at the helm. [Lindsey] Beer has wanted to jump into the directing the chair and saw this as a perfect opportunity. Beer also wrote the latest script based off a draft by Jeff Buhler.”
