Come Play, an electric new thriller featuring a memorable monster named Larry that feeds off technology (and fear) to jump from screen to screen right into your bed, is sure to be one of the standout genre entries as we approach the end of the year. From the mind of director Jacob Chase, Come Play was born out of the director’s short film, Larry, that’s rightfully been compared with the smash hit Lights Out from David Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation, Shazam!).
Gillian Jacobs (Star Trek: Lower Decks, Bad Milo) and John Gallagher Jr. (The Belko Experiment, Underwater) star as two young parents at their wits end as their son Oliver’s (Azhy Robertson) imaginary friend begins to manifest itself through every mobile device their home is littered with. As Larry grows stronger, the monster under the bed becomes a very real entity that wants to suck the life out of the entire family.
Synopsis: Come Play is a terrifying new vision in horror. Newcomer Azhy Robertson stars as Oliver, a lonely young boy who feels different from everyone else. Desperate for a friend, he seeks solace and refuge in his ever-present cell phone and tablet. When a mysterious creature uses Oliver’s devices against him to break into our world, Oliver’s parents (Gillian Jacobs and John Gallagher Jr.) must fight to save their son from the monster beyond the screen.

Everyone’s screen time has probably gone up lately, so Chase’s modern take on the monster movie seems even more relevant and prescient than ever.
