Daria Nicolodi: Legendary Actress & Writer Has Died At 70

Suspiria co-writer and Deep Red star Daria Nicolodi has died at the age of 70. Once married to director Dario Argento, Nicolodi acted in many his flicks such as Deep Red, Inferno, Tenebrae, Phenomena, and Opera. She was Asia Argento’s mother.

Asia confirmed the news on Instagram, writing: “Rest in peace beloved mother. Now you can fly free with your great spirit and you won’t have to suffer anymore. I will try to go on for your beloved grandchildren and especially for you who would never want to see me so grieved. Even if without you I miss the ground under my feet, and I feel I have lost my only true point of reference. I am close to all those who have known and loved her. I will always be your Aria.”

May favortie of her films, Deep Red, sports a 96% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: The kinetic camerawork and brutal over-the-top gore that made Dario Argento famous is on full display, but the addition of a compelling, complex story makes Deep Red a masterpiece.

Deep Red centered on a psychic medium (Macha Méril) who is brutally murdered. Musician Marcus Daly (David Hemmings) feels a need to solve the case, since he was the one who discovered the body. He works with reporter Gianna Brezzi (Daria Nicolodi), who hopes for a big scoop by solving the case. When one of Marcus’s friends ends up murdered by the same killer, the pair realize they must work fast to uncover the murderer’s identity. Or they might serve as the maniac’s next victims.
