Step aside, King Kong and Godzilla. It’s time for a new swarm of giant monsters to stomp onto our screens, as the upcoming video game adaptation Rampage now has a release date set for April 20, 2018. It will reunite San Andreas director Brad Peyton with star Dwayne Johnson.
In the Rampage series, people are turned into giant monsters after consuming a new drink product, who then proceed to destroy everything in sight. The roster included a giant ape and a giant lizard in clear references to cinema’s two most famous beasts.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, so I’m gonna go ahead and say it: why the hell are we getting a Rampage movie? None of the games in the little known series were exactly hits, and the series has also been MIA since the widely panned Total Destruction back in 2006. Of all the great game franchises that could be adapted for the screen, they picked Rampage? Anyway, I’ll try to be optimistic (but it’s hard) at the idea of seeing the Rock battling giant monsters.
