News that a fourth Underworld movie is preparing to go before the cameras is no surprise. That Kate Beckinsale will be returning as vampiric death dealer Selene might be somewhat surprising given her absence in the third installment that went the prequel route instead.
So it appears things aren't coming together as quickly as hoped for the latest Underworld installment as its release date has just been pushed back from September 23, 2011, to January 20, 2012.
With [REC] 2 busy kicking the asses of everyone who has watched it, things have been really quiet on the Quarantine 2 front ... until now that is! That's right, kids! The first bit of casting news has come in. Ready to find out who's down with the sickness?
The American version of [REC] known here in the States as Quarantine was pretty much a straight retelling of the Spanish film with some minor changes made to the story and a few key scenes. The first news of Sony's Quarantine 2 has just broken, and it appears to be going in a completely different direction than [REC] 2. YAY variety!
Potential plotlines for a fourth installment in the Underworld franchise have been floating around since January, 2008, when the head of Lakeshore said confidently Underworld 4 “would carry on where Kate [Beckinsale] and Scott Speedman left off after 2.″ Now that Sony Screen Gems has given the project the green light, we'll see if he was telling the truth.
It's a typically slow news weekend, but one story has trickled out that is worth mentioning: "Official" development of Quarantine 2 has begun under the auspices of Sony Screen Gems.
