Slithis, Night Angel, and Blind Date on Their Way to Blu-ray

What an incredible day and age we live in when cult movies, especially obscure ones, keep getting announced for future Blu-ray release with more and more frequency. This time it’s quite the eclectic trio of films from the Seventies, Eighties, and Nineties: Slithis, Blind Date, and Night Angel.

Let us begin in descending order with 1990’s Night Angel. Kino Lorber has announced intentions to release this seductive supernatural chiller for the first time ever on DVD and Blu-ray this October.

Isa Jank, Karen Black, Doug Jones, Linden Ashby, Debra Feuer, Helen Martin, Gary Hudson, and Roscoe Lee Browne star in this atmospheric fright flick about the demoness Lilith, reborn as a beautiful woman with a monstrous claw hand, who targets horny men, specifically those affiliated with a particular fashion magazine.

Co-written by Night of the Demons‘ Joe Augustyn and directed by Halloween 5‘s Dominique Othenin-Girard, look for Night Angel on hi-def sometime this Halloween.

That brings us to Nico Mastorakis’ 1984 hi-tech giallo Blind Date, coming soon to Blu courtesy of Scorpion Releasing. If you have never seen it, this one is most definitely out there:

A man goes blind when remembering his lost girlfriend, but the doctors can’t find anything wrong with his eyes. They fit him with an experimental device that allows him to see with the aid of a computer interface and brain electrodes. Meanwhile, a taxi driver is taking young women up to their apartments, giving them gas, and performing a little fatal amateur surgery on them. Their paths inevitably converge, and the blind man must try to stop the psychopath.

The device that allows him to see in what I’ve always referred to as “Tron-Vision” looks like a slightly modified Sony Walkman. Truly wacko in the best way possible.

Joseph Bottoms, Kirstie Alley, Lana Clarkson, James Daughton, Keir Dullea, and Marina Sirtis round out the surprisingly impressive cast for this sci-fi slasher, which was written and directed by cult Greek filmmaker Nico Mastorakis. The movie’s biggest claim to fame may very well be that it marks one of Kirstie Alley’s only nude scenes. So, for all your Saavik fans out there, purchasing this one is most definitely the only logical decision.

Scorpion Releasing has unveiled tentative box art for Blind Date with word that they hope to load this disc up with cool extras. Expect a release date announcement shortly.

Finally, we get to Code Red’s announcement they they will be putting out the 1978 creature feature throwback Slithis on Blu-ray for this first time. Code Red previously released Slithis back in 2010 on a now OOP and fairly pricey DVD, so if you missed out then, soon you’ll be able to get it again with an upgrade. Here’s the synopsis:

A nuclear leak spawns a mutant sea sludge monster called Slithis. The creature begins terrorizing the coastline and canals of Venice, California.

Alan Blanchard, J.C. Clare, Judy Motulsky, and Hy Pyke star in Stephen Traxler’s eclectic mix of 1950’s monster movie tropes and Jaws histrionics.

No release date or extras announced as of yet, but you can figure it will probably have at least the same extras as the DVD release. Stay tuned.
