(Stephen’s Version): Stephen King’s Rework of His Own Horror Epic Is Finally on Blu-ray!

One of the many reasons people love Stephen King is that he has always been honest with his criticism, even if it is a movie adapted from his own work. This is why there is no shortage of receipts regarding his thoughts on the 1980 adaptation of his novel The Shining.
King decided to be the change he wanted to see in the world and write a new version. Stephen King’s The Shining was a 1997 ABC miniseries Emmy-winning event. The hard-to-find title is now being released for the first time on Blu-ray by the good people at Shout Factory. If you somehow missed this gem, allow me to share my notes.
“A recovering alcoholic writer with a troubled past takes a job as the caretaker of a hotel with a malevolent will of its own. He’s come with his wife and their young son, hoping to get a fresh start in life. But his 5-year-old son knows better. He knows that his innocent mind holds an incredible power–“the shining”-a power to mirror the nightmarish secrets of the hotel’s past…. and to look into the hotel’s terrifying future.”

Stephen King’s The Shining was directed by Mick Garris and written by Stephen King himself. It is based on Stephen King’s novel The Shining. The miniseries stars Rebecca De Mornay, Steven Weber, Wil Horneff, Melvin Van Peebles, and Courtland Mead.
It was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards and ended up winning two of them. The adaptation won a statue for Outstanding Makeup and another for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Miniseries or a Special. It was also nominated for Outstanding Miniseries.

We think you should buy a copy from Shout Factory’s site today. However, we might be biased because we are obviously huge fans of Mick Garris and Post Mortem with Mick Garris.
