Sam Mendes

The talk about a Preacher film has been going on forever. Now, according to director Sam Mendes it looks as if it may be happening next year. Of course, I'm not holding my breath, but I do have my fingers crossed.

The Hollywood Insider reported today that John August has teamed up with director Sam Mendes in writing the screenplay version of the subversive comic book series Preacher. The comic centers on a small town preacher who becomes possessed by a sort of supernatural entity, half angel and half demon, and thus becomes imbued with a power potent enough to rival God.

Back in August we got hit with the bad news that HBO decided to drop the potential Preacher mini-series and left the chance of seeing the DC/Vertigo comic in live-action form in limbo. We were getting used to the idea that Jesse Custer's fight to find God and understand the demon that possesses him may never see the light of day. That was until Columbia Pictures stepped in!
