‘Salem’s Lot’: Stephen King Praises Recently Shelved Remake as “Old-school horror filmmaking”

Legendary horror scribe Stephen King took to Twitter again to tell people the new Salem’s Lot is “quite good”. King also shared that he is, “Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it’s embarrassing, or anything. Who knows. I just write the fucking things.” The author seems to be as frustrated as the fans who have been waiting for a new update.
His tweet also serves as a reminder that this most recent adaptation was finished years ago. Salem’s Lot was originally scheduled for a September 9, 2022 release date. Then the date was pushed back to April 21, 2023. The last time Warner Brothers shared an update, they considered sending it straight to (HBO) Max but did not give a timeframe. Many fans have grown increasingly concerned that it might fall victim to another tax write-off.
While Salem’s Lot received two television adaptations in 1979 and 2004, this version would have been the first time the story got a big screen release. Because it is one of the most beloved Stephen King stories, the refusal to let audiences see it seems like a weird call. Not only are movies based on King’s books always in high demand, but there is also a rabid fanbase already in place for this specific novel.

Salem’s Lot is directed and adapted for the screen by Gary Dauberman. The movie is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. The film stars Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Bill Camp, Pilou Asbæk, Alfre Woodard, and William Sadler.
Salem’s Lot was my first Stephen King novel. I read it as a tween and then watched the 1979 adaptation on basic cable with commercials. I was excited to see this adaptation, but now I worry it may never happen. Rumour has it Warner will be dropping the film onto Max this Halloween season, but nothing is sure.
