As Foy reported back in September, Roger Corman was selected to receive an Honorary Oscar by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Sadly, he won't be a big part of the Oscar telecast in March of 2010; instead, the awards ceremony was held this past Saturday at the Governor's Ball.

Roger Corman Finally Deemed Oscar Caliber
When I read the news the other day that Roger Corman was selected to receive an Honorary Oscar by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, I was kind of surprised. Not because I couldn't believe Roger Corman would be given an Honorary Academy Award but because I'd have sworn they'd already done so years ago. Apparently not. Talk about an honor long overdue.

When Dinocroc and Supergator Collide
Now that Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (review here) has become something of a minor web phenomenon, it should come as no surprise that more animalistic movie monsters are being booked to step into the cinematic squared circle and clash in a motion picture smackdown of b-movie proportions. Next up for a monstermania main event: Dinocroc vs. Supergator.

A Darker Shop of Horrors?
Talk about amazing timing. Just last night I watched the new Rifftrax DVD of Roger Corman's original Little Shop of Horrors (not a bad effort, but I couldn't help but think it's a little hard to do funny commentary for a film meant to be funny). Now today I read the film is being remade again, but this time as a straight-up serious horror flick. Seriously. I mean, seriously?

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Gets X-ray Eyes
Who here remembers Roger Corman's classic X: The Man With the X-Ray Eyes? Anyone? If you do, you're either an uber-fan like me or well on your way to (or past) middle age. In any event the film is up next for the old remake treatment with a great name attached to direct.

Corman Unleashes a Dinoshark
You can always count on Roger Corman to bring his b-game to the creature feature genre. The filmmaking legend who has graced us in recent years with Dinocroc (review) and its unofficial sequel Supergator (review) is about to unleash a Dinoshark upon an unsuspecting public.

Attack of the Giant Leeches Redux Date & Art
Not to worry, oh lovers of cheesy B-cinema everywhere, we wouldn’t let 2008 come to a close without adding some last-minute cheese garnish to the year. Not that this year hasn’t been rife with news on low budget cinema masterpieces waiting to happen, but not nearly enough of them have had to do with giant leeches!

Classics Get Colorized
Here I thought this whole colorization thing had more or less died out in the Eighties. Guess not. I'm with most people in thinking that if a movie was made in black & white, then it ought to be viewed in black & white. Besides, something about the colorization process has just never looked right to me. Don't tell that to Legend Films; restoring and colorizing black & white movies is their bread & butter.
