Brian Cox Ain't Monkeying Around in Planet of the Apes: Rise of the ApesEvery good movie needs a deliciously evil bad guy, and few actors on the planet can be as villainous as Brian Cox, who’s just signed on to the latest chapter in the Planet of the Apes franchise, Rise of the Apes.

According to The Wrap Brian Cox is set to reunite with The Escapist director Rupert Wyatt for 20th Century Fox’s latest soon-to-be-blockbuster. He’ll be playing the owner of a primate sanctuary who runs the facility without compassion for the animals that live there. If anyone could drive an ape to murder, we’re pretty sure it’s going to be this guy!

In the movie co-star Andy Serkis will play the chimpanzee who leads the uprising among the apes after having been raised by James Franco’s and John Lithgow’s characters, who play father and son.

Set in present day San Francisco, Planet of the Apes: Rise of the Apes deals with the aftermath of man’s experiments with genetic engineering that lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. Franco will play a driven scientist who becomes a crucial figure in the war between humans and apes.

Filming starts next month for a June 24th, 2011 release.
