DmC: Devil May Cry - Vergil's Downfall DLC (Video Game)Developer: Ninja Theory

Publisher: Capcom

Platforms: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 (reviewed)

DmC: Devil May Cry was an exciting title that really took you into the horrors of the Devil May Cry series. Now players can expand their game experience with the new DLC for DmC entitled “Vergil’s Downfall.” Gamers often have to be weary of new DLC content because it can either add to the overall experience or completely destroy it. In the case of Vergil’s Downfall, we really see an expansion of an already great game.

The new DLC allows players to step into the shoes of Dante’s twin brother, Vergil, who was sadly killed off in the last game. Now players will have to make it through the twisted worlds of Limbo while trying to figure out how to cope with how you feel about your family and find a way to get back your powers. Gamers will get the chance to test out not only a unique new storyline, but also, weapons, enemies, combos and environments. Also, the DLC has four new difficulty levels, that will have you playing for countless hours.

The new DLC packs quite a punch and will have you utilizing a ton of new weapons and combos. However, as players shift among their Demon and Angel powers, it feels just a little more stiff than it did with Dante. The best method with Vergil is to figure out what moves and combos work best with your gameplay and to use those throughout the story. This takes a little frustration out of it and will have you throwing your controller across the room less.

The graphics, music and controls are still spectacular–as they was in Dante’s missions–and make using your combos even more fun. Vergil has the ability to teleport to his enemies in order to take them out and easily can become one of your most used moves. However, if you do not use the ability carefully then you can end up falling to your death in some instances. A few problems start to occur with using this as well since you would sometimes respawn back in the air instead of where you should have.

Vergil’s story, even though it is spectacularly told through comic-style drawings, isn’t as good as Dante’s. The story lacks some of the depth and intrigue that we originally saw in Dante’s and those bad-ass cutscenes are truly missed here. The DLC really sets up DmC for more content or even a sequel and really is a must-play if you care anything about the game’s storyline.

Vergil’s Downfall is now available to purchase for 720 Microsoft Points and $8.99 on PSN and PC. DmC: Devil May Cry is rated M by the ESRB for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence & Strong Language. To learn more visit the official DmC: Devil May Cry website.
