Fake Dentist Lured Patients in Via TikTok: “I woke up with a chipped tooth” [Horror IRL]

A Chicago-area company called The Veneer Experts has been drumming up plenty of business via social media; the only problem is that the practitioner doing the work isn’t a licensed dentist.
Monica Davis is the registered owner of The Veneer Experts and has been identified by a former ‘patient’ as the woman in the TikTok videos promoting the practice. A since-deleted TikTok video shows Davis saying, “We’re changing lives, one smile at a time.”
As it would be, smiles are changing, but not in the way clients had hoped. Tattoo artist Ralph Jones went to the practice for veneers but quickly realized something wasn’t right. “I woke up to a chipped tooth,” Jones told CBS News. “Like there was a piece of it chipped.”
Monica Bailey went to The Veneer Experts with her 15-year-old daughter. Both were planning to have braces applied. Everything seemed alright at first. However, when Bailey called to make a follow-up appointment, the office phone number was disconnected. Bailey tried a different number she found for the practice but said no one answered.
When CBS showed photos of Bailey’s ‘braces’ to Dr. Laura Zalay, the good doctor was able to spot the equipment as incorrectly installed. “They look like real braces, but they don’t connect to anything in the back and so there’s no way to move the teeth,” the licensed dentist told the outlet.
CBS searched Illinois state licensure records and found no evidence of Monica Davis in the database. But Illinois isn’t the first state in which Davis has allegedly operated without a license. She was arrested for practicing dentistry without a license in Nevada less than a month before she set up shop in the Chicago area.
A reporter from CBS managed to get Davis on the phone, but when asked about allegations of an unlicensed dental practice, she simply hung up.
Davis has a Las Vegas court date slated for May. But it seems she may soon have to face the music in Chicago as well.
