More casting news has escaped from the well regarding the next film in the Ring franchise, Rings, as Deadline is reporting that Johnny Galecki has signed on to play one of the leads in Paramount’s film, the third American installment of the horror franchise about a cursed videotape that kills a viewer within seven days.

Galecki (I Know What You Did Last Summer) will play Gabriel, a handsome, pleasure-seeking professor who mentors and helps boyfriend and girlfriend duo Holt (Alex Roe) and Julia (Matilda Lutz). Galecki’s character is said to be a complete departure from his sensitive nerd guy Leonard on CBS sitcom “The Big Bang Theory.” Filming already is under way on Rings.

Rings will hit theaters on November 13, 2015.

F. Javier Gutierrez is directing from a script written by Akiva Goldsman, David Loucka, and Jacob Aaron Estes.

Based on a Japanese cult success, the first U.S. film went on to gross $249 million at the worldwide box office. That was enough to justify a sequel, which didn’t match the first one’s B.O. power but still grossed $160 million worldwide.
