There is nothing better than a great bad movie. Out of this world problems with insane solutions (usually ending up to be some sort of nuclear blast), pie plate saucers on strings, and big rubber monsters with zippers what more could you ask for? How about an ALL-STAR cast of B-Movie horror and sci-fi celebrities to sweeten the deal? Well, you’re in luck because I found a movie that epitomizes everything that is so scrumptious about all of your favorite B-Movie entrees.

Be prepared to be astounded by The Naked Monster, brought to you in full MONSTERAMA glory (in select theaters … or at least in the overactive imaginations of the very dedicated filmmakers). The film is a compilation/montage/homage or a “compimontomage” if you will, of nearly every early monster or sci-fi film ever made. From War of the Worlds to classic Godzilla you’ll find it all in The Naked Monster. You can also expect to see countless appearances made by the cream of the B-Movie crop. You’ve got to know your stuff or you’ll miss them, but I assure you this film is packed to the silly green gills with some of your favorite faces.

I have to admit that I was very unsure as I started watching the film. It was beyond cheesy and damn near annoying at first, but once I finally understood what the filmmakers were attempting to do I just sat back, set my brain on coast, and enjoyed the ride. The acting is intentionally atrocious, the monster (known as Creaturesaurus Erectus) is unbelievably ludicrous, the story is full-blown stupidity at its finest, and the nudity is relentlessly gratuitous, but you can’t help but take pleasure in watching the brilliantly calculated cinematic train wreck.

Naked Monster review! The Naked Monster is undoubtedly a work of the heart and was made with great passion and the utmost respect for the B-Grade pictures and unforgettable stars from an era that is sadly missed by innumerable fans. Some might say that they put too much cheese in the omelet, but I say bring on the cheddar … or in this case … Munster!

I don’t know how one would go about critiquing the production quality of a film that so unashamedly goes out of its way to have poor production quality. It’s bad! There’s no way around that, but it is bad in such a good way that if you don’t get some sort of satisfaction out of it you must be a total curmudgeon. I guess my best advice is to watch The Naked Monster when you’re ready to laugh at silliness; otherwise you’re just going to hate the movie and turn it off within ten minutes … Like someone else I know.

Yeah I’m looking at you Mr. Bo-mugeoun!

The Naked Monster DVD is served up with extra cheese as well. There is an entertaining and informative commentary with the two directors, Wayne Berwick and Ted Newsom. A video documentary and an interview with Kenneth Tobey are included as well. Tobey’s interview is a must see for any fan’s of the original The Thing. The extras are finished out nicely with a still gallery and deleted scenes. All add a bit more to the experience of the film itself.
