On this day in horror history, producer Robert Zemeckis and director Gil Kenan’s family-friendly fright flick Monster House was unleashed in 2006.
Written by Dan Harmon (Community, Rick & Morty), Rob Schrab, and Pamela Pettler, the film features the voices of Mitchel Musso, Sam Lerner, Spencer Locke, Steve Buscemi, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kevin James, Jason Lee, Fred Willard, Jon Heder, Catherine O’Hara, and Kathleen Turner.
Produced by Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg, the film grossed $140 million worldwide against a production budget of $75 million.
Here’s the winning synopsis: No adults believe three youths’ assertion that a neighboring residence is a living creature that means them harm. With Halloween approaching, the trio must find a way to destroy the structure before innocent trick-or-treaters meet ghastly ends.
Rated PG for scary images and sequences, thematic elements, some crude humor, and brief language, it sports a 75% rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Monster House welcomes kids and adults alike into a household full of smart, monstrous fun.
