Timur Bekmambetov Poised to Hit Some Red Asphalt

Timur Bekmambetov Poised to Hit Some Red AsphaltWell this is something new and different — a project with Timur Bekmambetov attached to it! Actually, Red Asphalt is new and quite different from the myriad of projects the Russian-Kazakh auteur has been linked with lately. Instead of just producing the film, Bekmambetov has been named as its potential director.

Per the LA Times’ 24 Frames, now that Wanted 2 hit the skids about six weeks ago, Lionsgate is after Timur to direct Red Asphalt, an “edgy 3D thriller” whose script is being written by the relatively unknown Andrew Baldwin.

Bekmambetov is also attached to produce, and lord knows how he’s going to juggle this along with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Casebook of Victor Frankenstein, The Darkest Hour, and Summit’s The Last Witch Hunter (all of which he’s co-producing); but we have faith. As 24 Frames put it, He’s a stubborn visionary, with outlandish ideas germinating in his head and then taking equally outrageous shape on the screen. Love him or hate him, Timur has had, after the success of Wanted, the clout to make the movie he wants to make in the way that he wants to make it.
