Stephen King Says These are the Two “Greatest horror tales” of All Time

America’s most treasured horror scribe, Stephen King, knows a thing or two about the genre. While he generally uses his tweets to lead us to films and TV that promise to be nightmare fuel, every once in a while he will also give us some book recommendations. Reading is fundamental, after all.
Talking Scared Podcast recently confessed to their followers that they mistakenly thought they had read The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty. They then asked their fans to share what horror classics they were catching up on. That’s when Uncle Stephen swooped in with the retweet and two strong recommendations.

King entered the chat with the two “greatest horror tales” he has ever read. The novella The Great God Pan by Arthur Machen and The Ceremonies by T.E.D. Klein.

You can read The Great God Pan for free on Project Gutenberg because it was published in the 1800’s. The tale involves a doctor who performs brain surgery on a woman as part of a quest to gain more knowledge about the spiritual world.
The Ceremonies by T.E.D. Klein was published in 1984. It sees a cynical graduate student on vacation in New Jersey get entangled in an evil entity’s ritual. The novel can be purchased from the usual suspects, or the audio recording can be listened to at Hellblazer1138 Audio‘s YouTube page.

I am embarrassed to say I only know these books because Stephen King has repeatedly told us to read them forever. I should take this reminder seriously now that he has made his love of them Twitter official. Also, doesn’t everyone want to know what Uncle Stephen finds scary?
