Uwe Boll: The Legend Continues

“For decades, the Order of the Keepers of the Holy Flame has watched over the portal that once allowed demons to invade Aelfal. According to IGN, that’s the basic premise behind the yet-to-be-released Diablo-esque PC video game Legend: Hand of God. And guess what video game loving filmmaker not named Paul WS Anderson just bought the film rights?
We received word via the man himself yesterday that Uwe Boll’s production company has snatched up the rights to bring Legend: Hand of God to the big screen. Why a video game company would still be willing to sell the rights to their game to a guy with Boll’s rep even before their game has had a chance to come out and possibly develop a following on its own, or why Uwe Boll would want to snatch up the rights to make yet another movie so soon based on a computer game with dark fantasy elements even as his In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale continues to collect dust on a shelf unreleased is beyond me. The only answer I can muster: Boll is German and so is the company that developed this game. I believe a little nationalistic synergy might be going on here.
“I think Legend will be very successful because of its unique blend of high fantasy and dark atmosphere. The world of Legend contains major crossover potential and was already adapted as novel and audio book” says Boll from the set of Far Cry, which he’s currently working on in Vancouver with Til Schweiger, Ralf Möller and Udo Kier.
“Legend is one of the select interactive entertainment franchises that transcends the video game genre and appeals to mainstream entertainment audiences,” said Jan Beuck, Creative Director and co-founder of Master Creating. “We are proud that Legend – Hand of God will be the second game from Germany that makes its way to the big screen and look forward to a great cooperation with Dr. Boll.”
The game isn’t due to be released until early 2008. Boll’s movie version, which he claims will be a $40 million production, is being touted for a 2009 release.

Plus, a special edition director’s cut of Alone in the Dark will hit DVD shelves on Septemeber 25th and this coming week will see the DVD debut of Boll’s BloodRayne 2: Deliverance, which I just reviewed.
The man is truly unstoppa-boll! He just keeps cranking them out non-stop. I fear that if we ever get Uwe Boll and Ulli Lommel in the same room together it could potentially set-off a metaphysical chain reaction that could unleash an explosion rivaling that of Hiroshima. And if Paul WS Anderson were to then enter that room … the end of life as we know it.
