Though we still have months to wait before Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead comes home, that’s no reason not to have an early trailer, right? Right!
This time, the story follows a group of friends on their way to Vegas who make the fatal mistake of stealing a car belonging to our friend Rusty Nail after their beater breaks down. Vehicular insanity ensues.
Head on over to B-D for the first look at the direct-to-DVD sequel, due out this October!

Cruise around in the Dread Central forums; see if you can piss off a psycho, too!

Anyway, it's a real shame that the talent behind the first film isn't back for the follow-up. Dahl, who is responsible for some of the best noirish thrillers in the past 20 years, did some bang-up work in JOY RIDE, adding real atmosphere and tension to the mix -- there's a pretty terrific scene in which the two leads hear something horrific happening in the hotel room next door, and the entire thing is accomplished with a bravura combination of lighting and sound. He focuses on a wall painting, strobing it with flashes of lightning while the violence next door is just barely audible over thunder crashes. It's one hell of a scene, and there appears to be nothing so high-minded in this cash-in DTV sequel.
Ditto on wondering where the hell Ted Levine is, as his voice work was part of what made the original film so special -- he conveyed just the right mix of sleaze and menace, whereas whoever's doing it now is clearly just going for a stereotypical hick accent.
A wasted opportunity all around.
From someone who's done nothing but bitch about Eli Roth since time immemorial, you have no need to be talking about diatribes. I've mentioned JOY RIDE once, while you've mentioned Roth about a million times. The fact that YOU are telling ANYONE to "give it a rest" is the most fucking hysterical bit of hypocrisy I've seen on this board.
JOY RIDE is a terrific film that garnered well-deserved praise.
The only thing "second rate" here is your laughable attempt at criticism.
"The original film was an exceptionally well-directed and tense thriller done with style and atmosphere. John Dahl and J.J. Abrams did a fine job. It's in no way, shape or form terrible, unless you're living in Bizarro World"
You just keep repeating the same old diatribe, don't you? I've read this five times. Give it a rest, "Joyride" was a trashy, terrible and horribly boring piece of garbage that's thankfully been shun into obscurity. It's second rate all the way.

That said, the sequel looks incredibly lame.
A second rate sequel to a second rate Duel? I'll pass...
Yep, as I said before, I'll stick with my copy of Duel!
No need to apologize Hunter, this looks about as terrible as the first one was.
Heh...tagline should read: "Heeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrree's RUSTY!"
It puts the lotion on its skin...
Sure isn't Ted Levine doing the voice, which takes away a lot...
Looks like crap. sorry.
