Zachary Quinto Logically Partners to Produce The Banshee Chapter

He’s best known for playing Spock in JJ Abrams’ reboot of Star Trek or, for you fans of the small screen, as Gabriel Gray/Skylar on “Heroes,” but Zachary Quinto wears other hats as well. He will be donning his producer chapeau when his Before The Door Pictures production company produces the elevated horror film The Banshee Chapter.
For those of you who were wondering, “elevated horror” is a format that is more dramatic and character-driven, focusing primarily on atmosphere and dread and less on gore.
The screenplay for The Banshee Chapter was written by Blair Erickson, who will be taking the helm of this picture, making his feature directorial debut. What we’ve gotten so far on the film is that it centers around a missing person, mind-altering chemicals, and clandestine government experiments. There’s a recipe for success if I’ve ever heard one! Zachary Quinto’s production company, Before The Door Pictures (BTD), has partnered with Sunchaser Entertainment and German producer Christian Arnold-Beutel (The Ledge, Flypaper) to produce the elevated horror feature The Banshee Chapter. Interactive and transmedia director Blair Erickson wrote the screenplay and will make his feature directorial debut on the project.
Sunchaser Entertainment’s Stephanie Riggs and BTD’s Corey Moosa will produce. Arnold-Beutel will serve as executive producer along with Quinto and BTD’s Neal Dodson and Sean Akers. The project is set to begin principal photography in August in New Mexico.
The Banshee Chapter centers on a young female journalist who follows the mysterious trail of a missing friend who had been experimenting with mind-altering chemicals developed in secret government drug tests. A fast-paced blend of fact and fiction, the film is based on real documents, actual test subject testimony, and uncovered secrets about programs run by the CIA.
“We are excited to branch out in our storytelling,” explains Quinto. “We’ve produced a movie about the financial crash and an innovative, grounded romantic comedy. The Banshee Chapter is an opportunity for us to tackle another film with its roots in reality, but through the lens of horror.”
In addition to producing films, BTD’s graphic novels published with Archaia, Lucid and Mr. Murder Is Dead, were released at San Diego Comic-Con and will both be widely available on October 11. There are additional projects in their television, film, comic book, and new media slate awaiting announcement later in 2011.
