2013’s Remember Me was, to all intents and purposes meaning, a pretty great game. Unlike most people, it didn’t really work for me, but I admired how it seamlessly blended both dramatic, plot-heavy set pieces and action sequences in a way that many other games fail to do. They went onto make Life is Strange, which was also praised for offering a rich narrative experience.
The game’s developer, the French studio Dontnod Entertainment, is currently working on the gothic horror RPG title Vampyr, which will be released on PS4, Xbox One and Steam next year. It was announced quite some time ago, and now we’ve finally got the first glimpse of footage, accompanied by commentary from the devs.
Vampyr will be set at the time of the London flu pandemic. You play as a doctor called Jonathan Reid who finds himself transformed into a creature of the night, having to choose between giving into his hunger or retaining what little remains of his humanity.
Unlike Remember Me, which was mostly linear, Vampyr will also be semi-open world, so expect to discover hidden secrets exploring the depths of London when it’s released next year.

Set in early 20th century Britain during a bout of the lethal Spanish flu, the streets of London are crippled by disease, violence and fear. In a completely disorganized and ghostly city, those who are either fools, desperate, or unlucky enough to walk the streets lay prey to Britain’s most elusive predators: the Vampires.
Emerging from the chaos, a tormented figure awakes.
Recently turned into a Vampire, an eminent doctor tries to understand his new affliction. His quest, made of intuition, discoveries and struggles, will be filled with death and drama, while he attempts to stem the irrepressible thirst that constantly drives him to take human lives.
Who would you sacrifice? Who would you save? How to live with the consequences of your actions? As you cling to what remains of your humanity, your decisions will ultimately shape the fate of your hero while searching for answers in the coughing, foggy aftermath of the Spanish Flu.
