Platinum Dunes Backs Off Rosemary’s Redux

Wow; first Platinum Dunes abandons its remake of Near Dark, now it’s moving on from Rosemary’s Baby. Maybe some things are sacred after all? Is it irony that I’m referring to Rosemary’s Baby as sacred?
Actually it shows that Brad Fuller and Andrew Form aren’t just a couple of opportunistic Hollywood suits out to cash in on a recognized name. ”We went down that road, and we even talked to the best writers in town, and it feels like it might not be do-able,” they told Collider in a recent interview. ”We couldn’t come up with something where it felt like it was relevant and we could add something to it other than what it was so we’re now not going to be doing that film.”
They also comment that they believe it’d be “a travesty” if Robert Englund didn’t get into their Nightmare on Elm Street remake, though not necessarily as Freddy, and that they’re still not 100% on their remake of Hitchcock’s The Birds.
”That’s not a movie that we’re just going to step up and just go have birds attacking people and trying to throw that into the box office.” Fuller explained further, ”If we can’t make that movie unique or add something to it, I don’t think we’re going to make it.”
I have to say this is all very encouraging to me as a fan. Hopefully they’ll stick to their guns and only remake when they can do something fresh.
