Casting Firms Up for Gothic Mystery The Limehouse Golem

Ready for another spooky “Gothic murder mystery” to head our way? News of the latest, an adaptation of Peter Ackroyd’s novel Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem, has arrived; and its cast members thus far are an impressive group. Read on for the early details.
Per Variety, Alan Rickman (below left; Harry Potter franchise), Olivia Cooke (below right; “Bates Motel”), and Douglas Booth (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) will star in The Limehouse Golem, written by Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Secret Service, The Woman in Black) and produced by Number 9 Films. Juan Carlos Medina (Painless) is set to direct.
Lionsgate Films has acquired UK and Irish distribution rights while HanWay Films has boarded worldwide sales rights.
The Limehouse Golem is a Gothic murder mystery in the style of Se7en and vein of The Woman in Black; producers are Stephen Woolley (Interview with the Vampire), Elizabeth Karlsen (Carol), and Joanna Laurie (Hyena). It is set in London in 1880. In the dangerous Limehouse district, a series of murders have shaken the community. So monstrous and ruthless are these crimes, the press claim they’re the work of The Golem — a legendary creature from dark times. Confronted by a murderer of a yet unknown kind and with no genuine leads, the police put the vastly experienced Detective Inspector Kildare on the case, a scapegoat for when the next victim surfaces.
Lionsgate CEO Zygi Kamasa commented: “Having recently worked with these three very talented British actors separately, we’re excited to see them on screen together on what we think will be a chilling adaptation of this popular novel. We eagerly anticipate seeing how this team brings to life Jane and Juan’s work.”

It’s going to be the first time the world will see the amazing universe that Peter Ackroyd has created that has a more sensational twist than The Crying Game.”
