Oren Peli’s Area 51 Footage to Soon Be Found?

Producer Jason Blum has taken over the Blumhouse Productions social media accounts for the week, which has led many to send questions through those various channels. One such question has provided an answer to something we’ve long been wondering, so read on for the scoop.

Not long after directing Paranormal Activity, which became a massive success, director Oren Peli began work on a found footage film titled Area 51, which was to be his hotly-anticipated follow-up effort. Though the movie was shot several years back, all went quiet on that front some time ago, and we’ve heard very little about it in recent years.

Over on Twitter, a user by the name of Nathan Tex Yocum questioned Blum about Peli’s unreleased film, and much to our surprise, the producer noted that Area 51 is coming “very very very soon.” He didn’t provide any further details, though this is certainly good news for all who have been waiting for this one.

Area 51 stars Reid Warner, Darrin Bragg, and Ben Rovner.

The film employs the “found footage” narrative structure that Peli used in Paranormal Activity to tell the story of three teens whose curiosity leads them to the notorious Area 51 portion of Nellis Air Force Base in the Nevada desert. Of course all manner of shit-your-pants type spookiness ensues.
