Buffy Headed for the Big Screen?

Buffy headed for the big screen?It’s a rumor of a rumor for now, but is it possible we could be seeing a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie in the near future? According to Moviehole, page 51 of the Aussie Hearld-Sun newspaper has an interesting bit about that very subject. It reads like this;

The monster success of girly vampire pic Twilight at the US Box office last weekend could kick open the door for a big-screen return of Joss Whedon’s much-loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Rumours are circulating in Hollywood that Whedon has a feature-film script based on his hit TV series ready to roll as soon as a studio is prepared to commit..

Odd, and probably more than a bit of heresay, but we’ll be keeping our ears open for more solid facts. Whedon is still working on his new TV show, “Dollhouse”, as well as the horror film he’s co-written with Drew Goddard, “>Cabin in the Woods, but I’m sure the chance to pull a Serenity on “Buffy” would be far too tempting a prospect to pass up for the man.

Fingers crossed!

    Sarah MICHELLE Gellar. Damn, I fucked up. I forgot the E! WHY?!?!

  • FilmCritic3000

    The fly in the proverbial ointment, however, is Sarah Michell Gellar. She’s long been on record that she’s “moved past” the series. Funny, that’s the one thing that gave her star rise (as I doubt that many watched her on “All My Children”, my late mother and a friend of mine aside).

    Besides, what else has she been doing as of late? Those sub-par, god awful movies directed by foreign directors that go straight-to-DVD? Theatrically, anyone else remember the cinematic atrocity known as The Return?

    I sincerely hope Joss can get the ball rolling on this, get a good promotional budget, and reap the benefits he never experienced after the studio truncated the first film’s script. (Check out the wrap party video of the first film on YouTube. A very young-looking Joss is less than enthused – “Say something to the camera, Joss.” [Deadpan] “We made a movie.”) And if Sarah Michelle Gellar doesn’t want to commit, well then they can always recast, though I think she’ll commit if they throw a ton of zeros her way.

    I just hope they can get Alyson Hannigan and shoot around her How I Met Your Mother schedule.

    Well, hopefully Gellar’s string of bad movies will persuade her to give Whedon a shot again. How this will tie to the series though (with season 8 still swinging) is beyond me. It could be non-canon, or could be a remake of the original movie.

      “could be a remake of the original movie.”

      I would imagine they’d want SMG for it, and if so, there’s no way she passes, today, as being younger than in Season One.

      Whatever, if they decide to make a movie I’ll see it, but I’d prefer they let this incarnation end with the comic.

      Maybe in ten years they can remake/reboot the movie with a completely new cast.
