Paramount Announces Tales from the Darkside on DVD!

Tales From the Darkside on DVD!There must be a god! I now have a bit more faith in humanity! We can all throw away our bootlegs (you know you bought one) of the TV horror phenomenon known as “Tales from the Darkside” as Paramount Home Entertainment is set to bring home Season One of the much beloved show on February 10th, 2009!
That’s right, kids, no more blurry copies of the Eighties anthology show which was executive produced by the legendary George A. Romero. It’s all smooth digital sailing for us!

February 10th will also see the debut of “Friday the 13th: The Series Season 2″ make it home onto DVD! I ask you: does it get any better? Not really!

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be.

It would be rather hard to imagine ever getting DVD sets of these shows that are better quality than what we have received thus far. I say that because, as far as the studio is concerned, these are not priority projects (as unfortunate as that is). Considering the quality of the source material (remember, these were originally aired during late-night back when I was a kid), I imagine that it would take quite a bit of work to deliver anything close to what we are used to getting these days, and Paramount is simply not willing to spend the time or money.

However, I find it hard to believe that the quality of these sets will be anywhere near as bad as the bootlegs that have been floating around (re-encoded copies of VHS dubs). And they will probably even be better than the re-runs that are finally being shown on Sci-Fi (which chooses to air them at ungodly hours so those of us without DVR have no real hope of catching them).

That being said, after waiting years and years for these shows to be available, I am happy that we are getting them at all. While neither of these shows was truly amazing, each had their own charm, and they certainly have a nostalgic quality for those of us that remember staying up late to catch them (regardless of what our parents might have thought). :)

This is awesome news. Been waiting for this for a long time. I like the cover art- it references some of the more memorable episodes and captures the opening bit at the same time. Kind of humorous, the way the closet monster is peeking around a tree. Anyone who remembers that ep, this should catch their eye. I hope the old transitional sound effect that used to come at the commercial breaks when the show was first on is in there, too- remember that? I get a cold fuzzy feeling just thinking about it.

Here’s hoping it sells well and the rest of the seasons aren’t far behind.

Did Hell freeze over? Can The Keep be far behind?

Hmmmm. Good. I want this. I still remember the first time I saw the credits at 2AM at the tender age of 9. It gave me the creeps.

anyone know if the 20th episode of season of friday the 13th mesmer’s bauble will be included i heard rumors that vanity who was in that episode was going to sue cbs dvd/paramount if they include the episode

I imagine these will have the same transfer quality that Creepy said Season One of Friday The 13th: The Series had. But oh well – at least it’s coming to DVD. Monsters should be next, though I don’t think Paramount owns it.

Yeah now we can have official blurry releases! LOL! Still, I’ll take an official release over a bootleg any day of the week!
