Ever since learning that Neill Blomkamp is directing an Alien film for Fox, we haven’t quite been sure of what to call the upcoming movie. It is commonly being referred to as Alien 5, though it seems the actual title is going to be a bit more evocative than that. Read on for the latest.

In a new interview with Empire, Blomkamp opened up for the first time about the film’s official title, though he’s still remaining tight-lipped about it.

I sent the title I wanted to Ridley [Scott],” said Blomkamp. “It’s kinda quite bold, but it gives away too much if I say the title. But in the event that it doesn’t work, I’m dead in the water…”.

The South African director also spoke about the connection to Prometheus 2, which is reportedly going to take place before the events of his untitled Alien film – though he won’t be treading on the proverbial toes of Scott’s sequel.

I changed the one thing [Scott] felt was bumping Prometheus a little bit,” revealed Blomkamp. “One thing that makes me feel good about it is that Ridley is producing it. He likes the idea of what I want to make.”

Sigourney Weaver is set to reprise her role of Ellen Ripley in the upcoming film, with Ridley Scott attached to produce. Michael Biehn is also likely to star.
