Here’s what lies in wait for you come December 5th, 2006…
Imagine going through your whole life without dreaming. That’s the deal with Ben Dobbs who, until recently has never had any dreams of any kind. Then, out of nowhere, he begins having terrifying nightmares that start to leak over into the real world. The more he tries to get help the further the net spreads for new victims for a nightmare demon. Will he survive? This is listed as a special collector’s edition and other than being the first time it’s been on DVD I couldn’t find any features for it. Buy it here!
What, you thought the last super special edition of Bob Clark’s classic was the be-all end-all? Look how wrong you were! Just in time to keep the hype train rolling for the remake (and likely confuse those who don’t know any better), Critical Mass has a new edition of Black Christmas ready. This time there’s two newly discovered scenes with vocal tracks, a new featurette and new interviews. Buy it here!
Been a long time since I’ve heard anything about this one, but from what I remember it sounded pretty damn awesome. The story follows a traveling salesman, stupid blond actress and a toungeless Scottish warrior across the nuclear wasteland of out planet in order to retrieve an oracle that will either fix the world or destroy what’s left of it. It’s been getting all sorts of accolades for years now and thanks to newcomers Cinema Epoch is finally seeing its way to DVD. Buy it here!
All right, another vampire movie! And look at how awesome that cover is! Wow! The movie is about eight college students who think their lives are going well until they come across a mysterious vagrant who warns them of a terrible evil. Terrible, just terrible. As the light fails the dead come out looking for blood but because they’re college kids they’re stupid and ignore the warnings, which of course leads to some level of mayhem. Buy it here!
Shriek Show likes their demons and they know you do, as well, so they’ve shove three demon-themed tales of terror onto one DVD. The Other Hell is about a convent in which demonic possession is the order of the day and makes the nuns go crazy. Demons III: The Ogre tells of girl on vacation who realizes that the hideous demons that haunted her childhood are very much alive. Finally, Black Demons is an Umberto Lenzi zombie film that’s barely been seen here in the states about the corpses of slaves come back for revenge. Buy it here!
From what I’ve heard about it, this is a very fucked up little film. Sarah Lassez stars as Therese, a health inspector who’s obsessed with old kung fu movies, nymphomania and has a disturbing relationship with a creepy televangelist (Star Trek’s Walter Koenig). To make matters worse her brother, a meat importer, may have infected her with mad cow disease. Lots of fucked up shit happens, apparently. Buy it here!
A remake of the classic film from Kyoshi Kurosawa, this redux apparently watered it down quite a bit for U.S. audiences. The story is about a hacker who taps into a mysterious wireless signal that apparently gives the dead a direct line back into our world; and they really want to get through. It sure wasn’t reviewed very well and even though I’ve never seen it, I would highly recommend checking out the original, which Magnolia released on DVD a few months back, before you spy this one. Eighty-five years ago a viral outbreak caused three quarters of the population to turn into the living dead. Never a good thing. A lone bounty hunter sets out for revenge on the group of sadistic outlaws who left him for dead, so now he’s fighting his way across the gore-drenched landscape killing both the living and the dead. Despite the somewhat hokey title it actually sounds pretty damn cool. The fact that it’s a DTV release from Anchor Bay worries me a bit, but I’d give it a chance. Buy it here!
It’s the future (guess what year). Due to radioactive devastation, Earth is little more than a barren rock, so we seek out a new home. The last remnants of humans struggle for survival on a distant planet and it’s up to the marines to stop a new breed of alien weapons that were created to mirror mankind’s classics monsters; werewolves, vampires and zombies. Directed by the man who did Samhain and Deaden (review), this low-budget sci-fi is pretty good fun. Look for Arrow in the Head’s John Fallon if you check it out! Buy it here!
A collection of six shows about the paranormal that was released as the TV show “Shades of Darkness”. Some of the best mystery stories ever written are adapted by various directors like “Bewitched”, about a robust man wasting away to nothing because of an affair he’s having with a ghost and “Afterward”, a clever twist on an old story about an American couple looking to buy a haunted house and get more than they bargained for when the find it. In case you couldn’t guess, this is a slasher flick that tries to be more than just a standard by-the-numbers horror flick but, if The Foywonder’s review is any indication, falls just short. A group of college kids (of course) head out to a remote cabin in Northern Michigan during a deep freeze and begin getting picked off by a madman. I don’t know about you but the idea of a Northern Michigan winter is much for frightening than a masked psycho anyday. Buy it here!
Talk about the ultimate player; Ricky Wilson will con them all. Doesn’t matter if they’re fat, blond, brunette, skinny, crippled … he’s just got a way with the ladies. He takes ‘em for everything they have while making them feel on top of the world. He finally meets a woman who just might be his match, a woman looking to take out some emotional revenge on someone and he’s the easiest target. Needless to say things get complicated. Buy it here!
Two stories of the supernatural; “Manifested Intent” is about two college kids (wow!) who try to tap into the unused part of the human mind. When one of them overdoses they both get stuck in an experience they probably won’t survive. “The Preparation Aliens” is about a group of E.T.s who are just getting ready to takeover out planet but have on last task to complete before they do.
