We’re one day away from the release of Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie, which is so far getting some pretty heinous reviews. But hey, at least we still have his Alien film to look forward to. And wouldn’t ya know it, Ripley herself says we’re in for quite a treat with that one. Read on!

In an interview with Variety, a discussion about Chappie naturally segued into one about the upcoming Alien project, and Weaver made a pretty bold promise about the near future of the beloved franchise.

I can’t think of a better director,” Weaver told Variety at the New York City premiere of Blomkamp’s latest film. “He’s a real fan. I think he’ll be true to the world and take it in unexpected directions. It’s got a lot of sinew in it. It will certainly stand up to the others and probably break a lot of new ground as well.”

I would love to make something in that world because the films use terror and dread and filmmaking techniques that are different than what I’ve dabbled in before,” Blomkamp added, once again comparing his upcoming film to Alien and Aliens.
