No Salvation for The Last Battleground

The Last Battleground! It’s not unusual for us to do stories based on tips sent to us by readers. This time the inspiration for the story comes from a thread on our own message board. Microbudget filmmaker Sonny Fernandez has pretty much been running what amounts to a production blog in the “INDIEcent” section of our message board on the filming of his latest feature The Last Battleground.

The Last Battleground follows a bunch of seeming unconnected characters: a pair of inept hitmen, an abused girl who relies on an invisible friend to get her through rough times, a young homeless woman, and an artist who’s been noticing a change in the world around him. Their paths and others will intersect one faithful night because heaven and hell have had their ultimate showdown for control of the earth and damned if hell didn’t score the upset victory.

Where do you run when salvation no longer exists? Where do you hide when the ground is opening up and letting unholy creatures run wild? How do you survive in a world where the dead are coming back as Lovecraftian demons manipulated by their earthly sins?

One look at the multitude of pics Sonny Fernandez has posted in the message board thread and two things become apparent: 1) the budget is very low and 2) the level of ambition is very high. That’s exactly what Fernandez has in mind, “I want a really BIG feel to this thing…I want it to at feel epic and big. I’ve got big ambitious plans for this thing.” You can follow along with the film’s progress by reading that constantly updated thread.

Fernandez recently uploaded a promo reel of footage from The Last Battleground onto YouTube. Give it a look below to see what I mean!
