Imagine you wake up one night feeling a presence. The room is in dim light, the window is open, and you think there might be someone right behind you, next to the bed… would you dare to take a look?
In Don’t Look There, Marta returns to her mom’s house to spend some days with her little sister in Madrid. The girl’s strange behavior and the latent memory of a sad event will lead Marta to suspect that the house hosts an unsettling presence.
Don’t Look There is a Spanish horror short film directed by Daniel Romero (Fearful John) and produced by Kamel Films (winners of the Méliès d’Or award with Voice Over) in co-production with Harmonica Films (8, Mr. Dentonn). It stars Maru Valdivielso (Lovers of the Arctic Circle), Jonathan David Mellor ([REC2]), Sandra Blázquez, and Celine Peña.
The movie is a ghost story which was filmed during the last term of 2012, a horror short film whose main referents can be tracked down to seminal fantastic cinema classics such as Poltergeist (Tobe Hooper, 1982), Don’t Look Now (Nicolas Roeg, 1973) or Let the Right One In (Låt den rätte komma in, Tomas Alfredson, 2008).
For a year and a half this short has competed in the Seattle International Film Festival (USA), Razor Reel Fantastic Film Festival (Belgium), and Festival Internacional de Cine Español de Málaga (Spain). It was considered one of best shorts by CortoEspaña catalogue and has won 15 awards so far, four being audience awards. It has been in over 100 fests around the world and has been shown in NY Cervantes Institute and Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas.
