Twisted Produces a Pres

Twisted Pictures was formed back in 2004 with the express purpose of getting more and more daring horror films into theaters for us discerning fans. Since that time, however, all they’ve put out have been the Saw films, while other completed flicks under the production banner remain in the wings.

This morning it was announced in Variety that producer Carl Mazzocone (pictured, Boxing Helena, Dumb and Dumberer) has been brought aboard as production president of Twisted Pictures, which will hopefully give a push to getting some of those backburner projects out. Their plan is to develop and produce four new horror films in 2007, though specific titles have yet to be mentioned.

Still waiting for release under the Twisted banner are Catacombs, the underground terror movie staring pop star Pink, and Dead Silence (review), James Wan’s follow up to the original Saw. The latter is owned by Universal, so it’s understandable why it’s not out yet (they have no idea what they’re doing with horror), but Catacombs is in the hands of Lionsgate; what’s the holdup, fellas?

We’ll wait for more info on those two as well as the four new Twisted films planned for next year and pass it along to you as we get it!
