Pacific Rim 2 – Writer Dishes Details

Recently the Flickering Myth caught up with Pacific Rim 2 writer Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk) to talk a bit about his approach to writing the script for the Guillermo del Toro-helmed sequel.
“You know, once a month I’ll read an article where Guillermo has just said, ‘This is what’s gonna happen,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh wow, I can’t believe you told everyone,'” Penn told the site. “But to a certain extent, you can imagine [what it will be like] if you’ve seen the first movie. He and Travis [Beecham] created this huge mythology, and there is a lot of different stuff to mine. I mean, it’s like five movies stuffed into one movie so there’s a lot of different directions we can go. There will be a lot more about the Kaiju, that I can assure you… [and] it will feature large robots and large monsters.”
In an earlier interview, del Toro confirmed that both Charlie Day and Burn Gorman will be returning for Pacific Rim 2, reprising their respective roles from the first film. The sequel, he says, will pick up some time after the events of Pacific Rim, centering on the characters of Dr. Newton Geiszler (Day) and Gottlieb (Gorman).
