An original Night of the Living Dead premiere invitation from 1968 (click for larger image)There is no film nearer or dearer to my heart than the original 1968 masterpiece Night of the Living Dead. It came out of nowhere and quickly became a movie that would forever change the rules of horror.

On this day, October 1st, in 1968 the movie premiered in Pittsburgh, and thus the legend began. I don’t know about you, but I plan on celebrating tonight by popping some corn, shutting the lights, and letting this classic film do what it does ever so well … terrify me!

Congratulations to the entire cast and crew. Your work has touched millions and will continue on to touch millions more. We love you, now and always. Happy birthday!

Many thanks to the lovely Kyra Schon for providing us a rare glimpse at the film’s original premiere invite! Click the above image for a better look!

Oh, and remember, kids …

Cooper was right!
