I have to say it’s a bit refreshing to hear about someone other than Lionsgate scooping up the rights to a Filmax film. Hopefully it means we won’t have to wait years to finally see it, too…
The movie I refer to is The Kovak Box, the latest film from Daniel Monzon that stars Timothy Hutton, Lucia Jimenez and David Kelly. Apparently the film was one of the highlights of Sitges this past year so it was inevitable that someone would scoop it up, but I doubt anyone expected it to be First Look. The company just closed on a huge credit line through Merrill Lynch in June that gives them more cash to play with than ever before, so I bet this is the first of many such oncoming deals.
The Kovak Box follows the trials of famed author David Norton (Hutton). He and his girlfriend go to Majorca for a conference, and at first all seems fine — until she suddenly jumps from their balcony down many stories to her death. Pretty soon people all around him start offing themselves as well, and it’s all tied to his writing. Together with a suicide survivor he sets out to find out what’s really going on and attempt to escape The Kovak Box. Do I know what that is? Hell no!
Wonder what could be inside that box in our forums!
