Del Toro Booked for Next Nine Years

Published

on

del Toro'sm massive slateAn article in this morning’s Variety lays out all the projects Guillermo del Toro is attached to between now and 2017(!). Aside from the five years he’s set aside for The Hobbit, Universal has some huge plans for his post-Tolkien work. Doesn’t look like he’ll be making any small, Pan’s Labyrinth-sized films anytime soon.

The trade reports that Uni has del Toro committed to four directing projects, including remakes of Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Slaughterhouse Five (!), as well as the Dan Simmons novel about Charles Dickens’ final days, Drood, which is out this February (pre-order it here).

As if that weren’t enough, Universal still wants to be the ones to make sure Del Toro’s “pet project”, as the trade refers to it, At the Mountains of Madness gets made, but there’s no timeline in place for that yet. Of course.

On the producing front, del Toro will be lending his name and wide berth of knowledge to Hater, the adaptation of the David Moody novel in which society all of a sudden turns (more) violent against one another and the deaths pile up, and Crimson Peak, a Gothic romance he wrote with Mimic co-writer Matthew Robbins.

As for Hellboy III, del Toro had this to say, “We laid the groundwork to have a magnificent third act. I’d like to return to an action franchise with 60-year-old actor Ron Perlman, because he’ll be scratching at that age when I get to it.”

Of course there’s only one place you need to be to keep up-to-date on all of these projects, so don’t move a muscle!

Next week Kansas City, MO, will be inundated with the creepy, the spooky, and the downright scary as Panic Fest celebrates its 6th annual event at the Screenland Armour Theater! The three-day festival runs January 26 through 28 and will feature over 20 feature films, two short film blocks, several live events, and special guest appearances!

We truly believe this is the most solid film line-up we’ve had to date,” said Adam Roberts, co-founder of the festival and owner of Screenland Armour.

Playing at the festival will be Ted Geoghegan’s Mohawk, Ryan Prows’ Lowlife, Issa López’s Tigers Are Not Afraid, Adam Green’s Victor Crowley, Joe Lynch’s Mayhem, and more.

But why we’re really excited about the lineup is that not one, not two, but THREE Dread Central Presents films will be playing! Attendees can see Vidar the Vampire, Terrifier, and Imitation Girl during those three days, which we highly recommend doing!

We really wanted to take a big step forward in becoming the forefront for emerging films and filmmakers in these genres,” said Tim KC Canton, co-founder of the festival and founder of DownrightCreepy.com.

Special guests include Geoghegan, Prows, They Remain‘s Philip Gelatt, and both Green and Lynch, who will not only be on hand for their films but also to do a live recording of their podcast, The Movie Crypt!
