Anchor Bay Unleashes Bloodsucking Cinema

Bloodsucking Cinema on DVDAh, Vampires. There have been so many good movies that featured everyone’s favorite “pulse smoking fashion victims” (bonus points for anyone who can name where that quote came from). From the silent era of film to the teen sensation that is Twilight, it seems as if audiences just can’t get enough of them. Ever wonder what the fascination is? On September 23rd you’ll be able to examine the facts!

On that day Anchor Bay, in association with Starz Originals, is set to release the documentary Bloodsucking Cinema (pre-order it through EvilShop) at the anemic SRP of just $19.97!

What can we expect? Let’s take a look at the press release:

Bloodsucking Cinema dips into the bloody archives to examine the breadth of vampire cinema classics, from the early Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee classic portrayals to contemporary visions including Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Van Helsing, Underworld: Evolution, Interview with the Vampire, The Lost Boys, Queen of the Damned, BloodRayne and John Carpenter’s Vampires.

Bloodsucking Cinema features interviews with such vampire “experts” as directors John Carpenter (Vampires), Len Wiseman (Underworld), John Landis (Innocent Blood) and Joel Schumacher (The Lost Boys), actors Kristanna Loken (BloodRayne) and Stuart Townsend (Queen of the Damned), writers Marv Wolfman and David Goyer (Blade), as well as one of the last interviews with Oscar®-winning special effects wizard Stan Winston (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Interview With The Vampire). Critics Leonard Maltin and Harry Knowles also provide insights into the movies’ eternal love affair with the vampire. The documentary is hosted by renowned film critic Richard Roeper.

Color me there! Expect a full review soon!

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be.

Er, it’s “pole smoking” not, um “pulse smoking”.

    • Uncle Creepy

Well I do declare. First the Bigfoot craze is a hoax and now I find out that I had one of my fav quotes wrong. Will this madness end?

  • Sam Hell

Would’ve been nice to see Jean Rollin be a part of this. I dig his various takes on the Vampire myth. Hell, where is Christopher Lee, or Terence Fisher (deceased, but maybe an old interview on the subject exists?)…or even Jess Franco? Franco’s COUNT DRACULA, although not the best Dracula film, made it a priority to be the most faithful adaptation up to that point…an aspect that made Christopher Lee excited about being a part of the project.

Where the hell is Joss Whedon on that DVD? Seriously.

    the good: Marv Wolfman
    the bad: Richard Roeper
