Those evil bastards over at Fangoria took a trip to the wilds of Michigan recently to check out the set of Andrew van den Houten’s Offspring, the latest Jack Ketchum adaptation to be filmed. As you can see the film is looking just as gory as we had hoped … and then some!
Though some rights issues prevented The Off Season, the book Offspring is a sequel to, from being made first, van den Houten was more excited by the second book, anyway; “Off Season was very reminiscent of The Hills Have Eyes,” the director commented to the mag. “What we have with Offspring s really unique and different. Having a group of cannibals living in a cave in Maine and descending and terrorizing a small town is so fascinating to me. There’s a scene in Offspring that sort of summarizes the events of the original, though. We were able to work around the first novel, and this film works great as a stand-alone horror piece.”
Truth be told the books aren’t that different anyway so either one should work fine as a film if in the right hands. And these certainly appear to be those hands. Be sure to hit up Fango’s site for the full set report and more pics!
