Guillermo del Toro to produce Don't Be Afraid of the Dark remakeGuillermo del Toro is being true to his word and mentoring another young filmmaker into his first feature, this time teaming with Miramax on a remake of the 1973 classic Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. THR reports that the film will serve as comic book writer/artist Troy Nixey’s directorial debut. Surely a dream come true.

“It has always been a dream of mine to work on a project with Guillermo, my favorite filmmaker,” Nixey told the trade. “I had no idea it would be on my first one out. Miramax’s faith in me is everything a first-time director could ask for.”

For those unfamiliar, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark told of a young girl who is sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend. Already a shitty situation, made worse when she discovers creatures that live underneath the stairs. Expect to see some pretty amazing monsters with this remake, considering del Toro is involved.

Nixey has worked on comic titles like Batman and The Matrix and was responsible for the well-received short “Latchkey’s Lament”, a blend of CG animation and live action, back in 2007.

Stay tuned for more news on the remake as it comes down!
