A good short film knows how to rope you in, hold your attention, and then finish you off with a great ending. Filmmaker Jerry Pyle’s short, Service, cuts away all the fat of a horror film and delivers an incredible condensed viewing experience. Come see!

Service was written and directed by Pyle and stars Denna Lynn Thomsen and James Babson. The short, which won Best Director and Best Actress at the Hollywood Horrorfest, has played around the world at major festivals like Screamfest, Days of the Dead, Mile High Horror, and Morbido just to name a few. And now Service is making its online debut right here at Dread Central!

“I’m very proud of this film, in part, because it showcases the talents of some of my closest friends,” Pyle said. “Actor James Babson, producer Tim Hyten, DP Matt Garrett, casting director Jordan Wiles, and colorist Joel McWilliams are all old friends I entrusted with huge roles on this film; and it was a blessing to see their talents come together and soar on this project. Denna Thomsen is a new friend I found through an open casting call for Service, and to see her work together with one of my favorite actors of all time, James Babson, was such a huge honor and pleasure. She is a rising star. Please cast her in more things, horror directors!”

Pyle continued, “James Babson was the fulcrum this whole project revolved around. I’ve known him since we were expats in Prague in the early 2000’s, and I’ve known I’ve wanted to work with him since then. This project is a result of a strong desire to work with my most talented friends, and he was the first person I reached out to. I wrote the film with him in mind, and he was one of the first people to jump on board and champion this project. Huge thanks and kudos to him. Rylie Martinez, the little girl in the film, was such a joy to work with, and most of our fun stories from set revolve around her awesome and spontaneous personality. She inspired us all to be very playful and in the moment and to have fun even when we were stressed out. We filmed in her home, and she and her family made us all feel very comfortable and creative in their space.”

In 2012 Pyle released a previous short called Burn (which you can see HERE). Burn was an impressive project, but Service shows Pyle has gotten even better. “I don’t want to get too sentimental or navel-gazey on this super short film, but it really was an amazing project to work on, and I love it and all its little idiosyncrasies,” Pyle said. “I could go on and on about it, but I won’t. Ha! I learned a lot on it, and it was an important step for me after Burn. I’m hoping the next will be even bigger and better.”
