SDCC 08: Wolfman Details Revealed!

Hmmmm!Tristan just got out of The Wolfman panel at Comic Con (lucky bastard) and came back with both good and bad news.
First, the good: The trailer looks awesome! Apparently one shot is of a man ripped in half, his intestines spilling out, so there’s no doubt that they’re going for an R rating with this sucker. Thank God.

Now the bad: While the werewolf itself will be a man in makeup, the transformation will most likely be all CG. This comes from Rick Baker himself, who apparently wasn’t too happy with the decision, remarking that he hopes “they” will change their mind and let it be pratical, the way it should be.

Other than that, he learned that this Wolfman is much more of a period piece than the original, being set in the 1800’s.

Keep it here for more Wolfman goodies as they come down the line, and be sure to check out the newly launched official site whle you wait!

It’s sounding more like a Hammer film than a Hammer film.

    Cool!

But didn’t Baker himself acknowledge and even accept early on that CGI would probably be used for a few shots, especially the transformations? I’m not too worried. Clearly practical effects are going to be in the forefront and it seems that all the people involved are dedicated to making an excellent film-at least trying to. If CGI is used I think we’ll see the high end of the technical gradient not the low budget, cartoony looking stuff.

Further developments may change my view but so far I’m really looking forward to this.

You’re right to look forward to it. The trailer we were shown was good stuff. It had a classic feel, however modern if only in its gore. The one shot of a torso ripped in half, intestines dangling, was pretty bold.

We also caught the monster itself in glimpses and shadows. From what I saw, it looked great and very loyal to the original. Baker said at one point that the creature design was “…not all that different” from the one in the original film.

I’m lookin’ forward to it ;D
