SDCC 08: Alex Proyas’ Dracula?!

New Dark City DVD (click to see it bigger!)Andrew Kasch just checked in with a Dark City: Director’s Cut update and news about future projects from Alex Proyas.

Director Alex Proyas revealed that the July 29th release of this cut of the film will be about 10 minutes longer. Most of this time is made up with extra dialogue which, we’re told, helped further the development of both Rufus Sewell’s and Jennifer Connelly’s characters. It may not add to the overall visual flare of the film, but it does create a more complex story that was lost thanks to good ol’ test audiences.

Now for the real interesting news. Alex Proyas also hinted that he may be doing a Dracula feature in the future, but right now the only things listed on his upcoming slate are Knowing and possibly (PLEASE!) Silver Surfer. Mr. Proyas’ other future endeavors will be adapting a trilogy of books, though we’re not quite sure which three.

Hopefully this will be Marvel’s Tomb of Dracula although I am sure that is next to impossible unless it could be a joint Marvel Studios and Universal production.
That was always my favorite incarnation of the vampire outside of Christopher Lee’s Hammer portrayals.

A Dark City director’s cut? Oh, my morning has officially been made! I’m in the minority here for sure, as everyone I’ve ever turned on to this flim didn’t like it. It is really an underappreciated movie. I remember it like it was yesterday. When Hurt smashed that wall, I stopped eating my popcorn and did a “Whoa”. I’ll watch anything Proyas does. Just cut the man a little slack for the Big Wille robot movie.
