AFM 2014: Riley Keough Checks Into Wolverine Hotel

News has just come our way out of AFM that financing has been secured for the crime thriller Wolverine Hotel, which looks to mix together a lethal cocktail of drugs and paranormal activity. Byron A. Martin Productions is proud to announce that during this year’s American Film Market, he was able to secure a new partnership with executive producer Jean-Guy Després for the financing of his horrific crime thriller Wolverine Hotel, which will be directed by award-winning horror/genre filmmaker Patricia Chica. The young Hollywood rising star Riley Keough (pictured; The Runaways, Mad Max: Fury Road) is attached to play the lead role of Mandy.
“I accepted to get involved in the financing of Wolverine Hotel because I find the project extremely viable both from commercial and financial points of view. Being directed by a young up-and-coming filmmaker like Patricia Chica with a strong creative vision, this film has the potential to also do well in the international film festival circuit,” says Jean-Guy Després, whose 35-year career include credits such as Hysteria: The Def Leppard Story and Love Song.
Byron A. Martin is presently attending the LosCabos International Film Festival in Mexico as part of the selection from Canada. “My goal is to secure a strong sales agent and develop solid relationships with international co-production partners from the US and Mexico,” says Martin.
Director Chica, who has build a loyal audience for herself in three languages (English, French, and Spanish) thanks to social media, has been very involved in the casting of this film. “My goal is to attach a big Latino star for the role of Steve because the Hispanic market is predominant and essential to the success of this film. Thanks to the help of the Paradigm Talent Agency, I was able to meet and discuss the project with Mexican superstar Luis Gerardo Méndez, and that is the caliber of foreign talent that we want to attach to Wolverine Hotel to add an international value to our film,” says the director, who is presently touring the festival circuit with her Coup de Coeur selection Serpent’s Lullaby (Cannes’ Short Film Corner 2014), a fantasy tale also produced with Byron A. Martin.
Written by Canadian Andrew Lynch, Wolverine Hotel is inspired by the real-life characters that the author encountered at the tail of his hard drug days while living in a skid row inn, struggling to keep his shattered life from slipping between the cracks. The story delves into the gritty, realistic underground world of three lowlife drug addicts trapped in a dark muck of their own creation, which ultimately results in their complete destruction. “The supernatural twist and message of ‘heeding the warning signs before all is lost’ is what this film is really about,” says screenwriter Lynch.
