AFM 2014: Guillermo del Toro Lending Voice to Poe’s Extraordinary Tales

Guillermo del Toro has told us some pretty extraordinary tales over the years, including Pan’s Labyrinth and Pacific Rim. So I suppose it only makes sense that he’s just joined the voice cast of Extraordinary Tales, an upcoming animated feature that has got us all sorts of excited. Read on!
Variety reports that Del Toro will lend his voice to the Raul Garcia-directed feature, an arthouse animated omnibus based on Edgar Allan Poe’s novel. The film is almost finalized and will be shown to AFM marketgoers on Friday.
Budgeted at $2.5 million, Extraordinary Tales is comprised of five segments, retelling Poe stories. Each part boasts a different animation style that reflects Poe’s universe and is inspired by various artists.
Del Toro’s voice will be heard in The Pit and the Pendulum segment, which mimics mid-19th century photography. The segment turns on a man who is being tortured during the reign of the Spanish Inquisition.
The awesome voice cast is completed by Christopher Lee, Julian Sands, and Roger Corman.
The film is produced by Stephan Roelants at Melusine Productions and was recently acquired by leading indie animation distributor GKids for North American distribution. It’s co-produced by Melon Digital, the Big Farm, and R&R Communications. The animation was delivered by Roelants’ Studio 352.
