Is there anybody who doesn’t love Critters? Even Siskel & Ebert gave the film two thumbs up, so I suppose that answers my question. The true secret weapon behind the horror-comedy is Brian Domonic Muir, who not only came up with the story but also penned the screenplay.
Unfortunately, Muir passed away in 2010 due to complications from a brain tumor, leaving behind those loveable Crites as his enduring legacy. But the 1986 fan-favorite is far from Muir’s only contribution to the genre, as he was a regular writer for outlets like Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine and Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine.
Muir also penned several novel manuscripts throughout his life, and though none of them were published while he was here with us, his cousin Charles Muir has made it his mission to remedy that and introduce Brian’s “lost” work to the world.
This past weekend saw the release of the brand spankin’ new novel The Outcasts, put out by Post Mortem Press. Described as an 80s throwback, the novel was the first one Brian ever penned, and all these years later it is finally available for our consumption.

Synopsis:
In the sleepy town of Konnor, Oregon, aliens are using human hosts to spread their eggs in a secret invasion. Because anyone can harbor an alien parasite, no one can be trusted.
